Hello Symbol Station! Your group will explore the symbols that can help us learn about and remember the First World War and its Veterans.

Tulips are a symbol of international friendship. During the Second World War Canada helped the people of the Netherlands regain their freedom and helped their princess by inviting her to live safely in Canada. The people of the Netherlands gave Canada 100,000 tulip bulbs to thank us for being so kind. Each spring the tulips grow in Ottawa, our country's capital.
Peace Cranes are a symbol of peace and non-violence. Thousands of people from around the world fold paper cranes as an expression of hope for world peace.

Your Task
Symbols help us to learn about and remember the First World War and our Veterans. Your group will create a poster called "We Remember" using the symbols of remembrance.

- Discuss how you want your poster to look. Should it include one or all of the symbols of remembrance( It must include at least 1 symbol)? Will it be colourful? Will it be all drawings or will there be words? Brainstorm as a group.
- Prepare a rough drawing of what you want your poster to look like on a small piece of paper.
- Next, begin creating your symbols poster, using the markers and/or pencil crayons to colour it in. Be neat and make sure any words used are large enough to see!
- When you are finished, present your symbols poster to the whole group.
